- Broaching:- when a steep following sea causes the vessel to ‘surf’ forwards
controllably, the bow tends to ‘dig’ into the wave ahead, decelerating the
vessel rapidly. - The forces on the stern will
cause the stern to swing violently to the left or right and the vessel will
come to rest broadside to the waves. A rapid “broaching” may cause a capsize.
